The "Ta Moko"

The tattoe's history begin with a love story between a young man, Mataroa, and an underworld princess, Niwareka.
One day Mataroa beat Niwareka, so she left him and going to her father's realm named "Uetonga".
Mataroa was sad and decided to pursue the young girl. After he had uncoming several obstacles he finally arrived in "Uetonga", he asked forgiveness to Niwareka. She accepted so her father learnt him to do the "Te Moko".
The lovers returned to the human world and carried with them the arts of the tattoes.


To me the Maori's tattoes are beautiful!
